 Mission Statement:

As a part of the whole Christian Church our mission is to respond to the gospel of God’s love in Christ and to live out our discipleship in worship and mission.

We do this through:

Worship and prayerfulness;

Support of each other in care and spiritual growth;

Engagement in the life of the local and global community;

Sharing the riches of our faith with others

We shall live out this mission:

Through our local Methodist Circuit;

In partnership with the other churches in the town;

As a part of the worldwide body of Christ;

Alongside other organisations in the community.

The Methodist Church in Ashburton, a well established and thriving market town, occupies a large central site with great potential for development within the service of the community.   The church attracts a congregation of around twenty five local people, and although mainly elderly, it does have a reasonably balanced age group. Sadly it currently has no Sunday school or activities involving young people. Over the last two years it has attracted six new worshippers, which based on its actual membership, is percentage wise, quite high.

During 2008 the church underwent a District Review that resulted in:

Eleven members of the church attended the Pioneer Disciple Course during 2009.

In May 2010 Ashburton employed a Youth and Community Worker, shared 50:50 with Ipplepen Methodist Church, to develop further work within the town.

Regular activities:

Prayers daily 7.45 – 8.30 am

Weekly Christian meditation group

Weekly coffee morning: focus Action for Children once a month

The church building, which is used for several outside secular lettings, is a listed building (within Dartmoor National Park) in need of repair and modernisation:

  1. Exterior work is currently happening.
  2. Interior work – some thought and architect’s drawings have been done on adaptations to meet 21st century requirements & needs. Discussions are presently underway with a local architect.  Major fundraising will be required before any developments can take place.

Organisations which use our building include:

Alcoholics Anonymous

Ashburton Singers

2 Dance Groups
