Welcome to the Avenue Sunday Club
Hello and welcome to the Sunday Club section of The Avenue website!
We meet each Sunday from 10.30 until 12.15 (except the first Sunday, when there is
an All-Age Service at 9.30).
During June one of our Sunday Club children, Charlotte was asked to present a flower posy to the Carnival Queen at a special service. Two of the children from our Pre-School group were also invited to take part.

Creche
We have just started a crèche facility which will be meeting in the lounge under
the supervision of Julie Bladon and her team. Children from 0-pre-school can be
cared for in the crèche, where there will be age-appropriate activities.
Sunday Club
Children can be left upstairs from 10.30 to enjoy free-play and games, under the
supervision of the leaders. At 11.00 we all join the main service for
approximately 15 minutes, where the children are often encouraged to contribute
to the service through singing, dancing and sharing. After this we head
upstairs for the more structured part of the morning.
The school-age group is split into Key Stage1 and Key stage 2, each group following
the same teaching, but using age-appropriate activities.
We are currently working our way through the Bible from beginning to end as part
of the 400 year celebrations of the King James Bible.
The material for each week is written by our Children and Families Worker and is
therefore designed to be appropriate for the children in the group, taking into
account their ages and stages and their interests.
Recently some of the older children undertook a project where they designed a powerpoint
using Playmobil to tell a Bible story. We have also built tents and campfires
and eaten kebabs whilst talking about the story of Abraham. Each week is varied
and aims to be fast-paced and engaging.
We also have a time of reflection and have just started introducing some ‘Prayer
Room’ ideas to encourage the children to set by some time during the morning to
be with God.
We look forward to seeing you.
Staff
We are blessed to have a dedicated team of volunteers working with our children at The Avenue and as well as Margaret, Diane, Ruth and Julie, we would also like to say a big ‘hello and welcome’ to Kim and Gill. We are also pleased to have input from our the young people in our older groups and Rebecca has been a huge help to us each Sunday.
If you would like to find out further details about our Sunday Club or any of the other activities we run for children and families, then please give me a call: Jo Simpson (Children and Families Worker) 07870187904
